Will Georgia, Michigan stay on top?

Georgia and Michigan have held onto the top two spots the entire season. The Bulldogs and Wolverines finishing No. 1 and No. 2, in that order, would be almost unprecedented. Only once before has the preseason AP poll accurately predicted both the No. 1 and No. 2 teams at the end of the season: In 1951, the second year of preseason rankings, when Tennessee and Michigan State topped the poll at the beginning and end.

Neither team has budged in the AP poll, even though Ohio State has claimed the top spot in each of the first two College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia has now been atop the rankings for 22 consecutive polls, the second-longest streak ever after USC’s run of 33 from 2003-05, according to College Poll Archive.

If Georgia wins the national title, it would become the first team to three-peat since Minnesota from 1934 to the first year of the AP poll in 1936 and the 12th preseason No. 1 team to finish No. 1.

How will Week 12 impact the poll?

The wait for a true Saturday of chaos continues. Could it come next week? Two of the five remaining Power 5 unbeatens play high-profile road games, as No. 1 Georgia travels to No. 21 Tennessee (which is coming off a blowout loss to Missouri) and No. 5 Washington visits No. 10 Oregon State (which dominated Stanford). Tennessee is seeking its first win against the AP No. 1 since it beat Auburn in 1985, while Oregon State is hosting a matchup of two top-10 teams for only the second time after its win against Oregon in 2000.

The only other matchup of ranked teams will be No. 16 Utah at No. 19 Arizona. No. 2 Michigan visits Maryland, No. 3 Ohio State hosts Minnesota and No. 4 Florida State has an FCS game against North Alabama.
