Ceres Organic hulled and unhulled tahini recalled over salmonella fears
A popular condiment sold in store and online nationally has been recalled over salmonella fears.
Ceres Organic hulled and unhulled tahini was sold in NSW Woolworths stores and IGAs in NSW and Victoria as well as independent grocers in ACT, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
The product, which is made in Turkey, may have potential microbial (salmonella) contamination and “cause illness if consumed”.
“Consumers should not eat this product,” the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
Salmonella is caused by a bacteria commonly found in contaminated food or water and can cause symptoms such as fever, chills and abdominal pain.
Both the hulled and unhulled tahini 300g with best before dates of May 25, 2023, and August 22, 2023 have been recalled, as well as the best before date of August 1, 2028b for the hulled tahini.
For further information, consumers can contact Ceres Organic Australia on 1800 625 161.
