After her last pregnancy Nadya Suleman dropped 40 pounds just like that. Of course she was also hauling around eight babies at one time. Suleman claims during her pregnancy with the octuplets she weighed as much as 270 lbs. Though she gave birth just nine months ago, Suleman claims to have lost a total of 145 lbs, putting her at 125. And from recent pictures it seems to be the case. She says she didn’t have any surgery, or even the help of a trainer.

Nine months after giving birth to octuplets, single mom Nadya Suleman is back into her pre-baby jeans after losing a staggering 145 pounds — without the help of a trainer or plastic surgery. “I topped 270 pounds while pregnant,” the controversial 34-year-old mother of 14 kids — Elijah, 8; Amerah, 7; Joshua, 6; Aidan, 4; twins Calyssa and Caleb, 3; and 9-month-old octuplets Josiah, Makai, Jeremiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Noah, Maliyah and Isaiah, tells the new issue of Us Weekly.

And though she easily snapped back into a size two after her other pregnancies, getting back into shape after welcoming eight babies wasn’t easy. “I was eating everything in sight,” she explains. Instantly erasing 40 pounds after delivering her octuplets, Suleman says she felt compelled to join a local gym after their birth. There, she fits in thrice-weekly midnight workouts (while a nanny watches over her sleeping children) with strength training but no cardio. “I get enough of that with the kids,” Suleman, who gets by on three hours of sleep, tells Us.

But don’t think workouts alone got the 5-foot-7 mom down to 125 lbs. — Suleman maintains a strict diet, too. Five protein-packed meals or snacks a day normally consist of “anything the kids are eating.” Food staples in the Suleman household? Oatmeal, sushi, turkey, and even homemade baby food. “As long as it’s nutritious, it’s good to eat,” the busy mom explains.

“Even my Ob-Gyn is astounded at how I’ve snapped back,” says Suleman, who did not seek any surgical help for her weight. “And she knows I haven’t had anything done!”

Us has the best recent picture of Nadya here. She says she lost 40 from giving birth. Which means over the course of the last nine months she’s lost 105 lbs. That seems extreme – and even impossible – but when you do the math, it comes out to about 11.5 lbs a month, or 2.9 lbs a week. Generally weight loss of 2 lbs a week is considered healthy, but 3 lbs isn’t that extreme. In my experience, my rate of weight loss isn’t constant, no matter how diligent I am with eating and exercise. I can be completely on the ball and lose 4 lbs one week and nothing the next. It seems like what’s most astounding about Nadia’s weight loss is that it looks like it was fairly constant. She doesn’t seem to have lost focus or gotten frustrated one week and eaten whatever she wanted like most of us would.

I am fairly amazed that she manages to eat five small meals a day with all those kids running around. I don’t have any distractions of that sort and I still find it challenging to eat every three hours. And getting by on three hours of sleep? That’s insane. I can’t help but wonder what Nadya’s going to look like in fifteen years. She’s relatively young now but she’s put her body through something almost none of us go through. Just because she’s snapped back now doesn’t mean she’ll always have it so easy.

In other Octomom news, she recently dressed up as a pregnant nun for a Halloween party – and dressed the octuplets up as little devils. You know, because she wasn’t getting enough attention.
