Pete Townshend is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and songwriter for rock band The Who. Roger Daltrey and Keith Moon also are/have been members of the band.
Pete is the son of Betty (Dennis), a singer with the Sydney Torch and Les Douglass Orchestras, and Cliff Townshend, a professional alto saxophonist in the Royal Air Force’s dance band The Squadronaires. One of his grandfathers was from Cork, Ireland.
Pete is married to musician Rachel Fuller. He has three children with his former wife Karen Townshend. Karen’s father was film composer Edwin Astley.
Pete’s paternal grandfather was Horace Arthur Townshend (the son of William Samuel Townshend and Catherine Ellen Sellick).
